My Most Anticipated Movies of 2025

The title of this blog is pretty succinct. What are your anticipated movies for this year? Let me know down below.

Honorable Mention:
Amateur & Novocaine
The Amateur comes out on April 11th
Novocaine comes out on March 14th

These are combined because they have similar stories of the main characters needing to take revenge for or save their female love interest. The Amateur stars Rami Malek and Novocaine has Jack Quaid. They're honorable mentions because these two movies seem decent but not good enough to see in theaters. I’ll probably see these on streaming.

NOW ONTO THE LIST!

10: Now You See Me 3

Comes out on November 14th

If you knew me when the first Now You See Me came out, you knew I was obsessed; and not just because I saw one of my fantasy husbands, Mark Ruffalo on the screen for the first time. I do like these movies but the third one is low on the list because the second one left much to be desired despite Daniel Radcliffe being a great villain in it. Most of the cast IS coming back for the third one though so that’s already a win. NYSM 3 has my curiosity. We’ll see once the trailer drops if it catches my attention.

9: Zootopia 2

Comes out November 26th

You would be forgiven if you forgot Zootopia 2 was a project in the works for Disney but since the first one made over 1 Million dollars, it shouldn’t shock you that a sequel was due. I liked the first one and I’m curious about what they’ll do with the sequel.

8: Black Bag

Comes out on March 18th

Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett playing married spies? SIGN ME UP! I have loved Michael Fassbender since Inglorious Basterds and have been disappointed with the movies he’s been in since. I’m hoping that this one will be a better film for him, AND he gets to act with screen royalty Cate Blanchett? Oh yeah, this should be great in this spy thriller about a married couple whose marriage is tested when the wife is accused of stealing and leaking government secrets.

7:Karate Kid Legends

Comes out May 30th

Despite my not getting into Cobra Kai, I can’t pass up a movie that allows Jackie Chan to come out of retirement. I have a dirty little secret. I think the 2010 Karate Kid is better than the original, but I also understand the importance of the Ralph Macchio original. Jackie Chan is awesome, the kid they hired to be the new Karate Kid is so talented (he was in American-born Chinese) and Ralph Macchio is great. The possibility of Chan and Macchio fighting side by side will be epic so, I’m super excited about this.

6:Superman

Comes out on June 11th

DC is Back! Well hopefully it will be once Superman comes out. This is James Gunn’s first outing as DC CEO and I think it was a perfect decision for him to start off the new version of the franchise with a bang. Now, Gunn has had comic book flops before but I am confident with his ultra nerd-dom to give us a great Superman movie.

5:Fantastic Four

Comes out on July 25th

This cast is basically the only reason why I’m excited. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ralph Ineson, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss Bachrach? Are you kidding me?? Okay, I kinda lied. This cast isn’t the only reason why I’m excited. The director Mark Shakman is known for his work on WandaVision, Always Sunny, AND  Game of Thrones! That means that if done right this movie will be epic and funny which would be more personality than the other Fantastic Four ventures.

4: Captain America: Brave New World

Comes out on Valentine's Day

Captain America Brave New World Follows Sam as he's requested by the president (recast this time by Harrison Ford) for a mission and though he's doubted at every turn, Sam dons the shield with his own suit and takes it on.

Gimmie my Anthony Mackie! I loved Sam Wilson since the character was introduced in Winter Soldier (which is my favorite CA movie) and with Kevin Feige scrapping and remaking/reshooting the majority of the movie once his power was restored with the infamous Chapek firing, I think quality will be back on track with the Marvel Movies.

3: Frankenstein

Date TBA

3 words: Guillermo Del Toro, Oscar Isaac, and Christoph Walz. That's all.

2: Wicked: For Good

Comes out November 21st

I mean obviously, I would have this on my list. It’s the second act of a musical epic and Wicked Part 1 was super epic. So, I’m so excited to see what Jon M Chu and the cast cooked up for the second act. There are a few new songs so that’s fun, but I absolutely cannot wait for The March of the Witch   Hunters. That song goes so hard and it’s so underrated.

1: The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie

Comes out on February 28th

Daffy Duck and Porky Pig are coming to the big screen! Daffy and Porky find a plot by aliens to blow up the earth and they take it upon themselves to stop the aliens from doing so!

Technically this movie came out in 2024 but it was going through distribution hell in the States so here we are a little over a month away from its 2025 release. I cannot emphasize how much this movie needs to be a success. It’s the Looney Tunes' first solely animated theatrical movie, and it’s David Zaslav’s test to see if Looney Tunes is still relevant. “But Julia,” you say, “It was critically acclaimed in the film festival circuits. Of course, it’s relevant.”

It was but that’s not enough for the IP of Looney Tunes. Ebbs and flows happen with iconic IPs all the time, but this is the first time I’ve seen such corporate disdain for a legacy IP. Yes, New Looney Tunes and Tiny Toons Looniversity, which are HBO Max shows, are still being produced, but they’re the only Looney Tunes content being made. Zaslav has already taken off a plethora of Looney Tunes shorts and spin-offs from Max three times in 2 years to sell them, even temporarily to a different streamer or just to hold them in archives so they’re not losing money on them being on Max. And with Zaslav tax-writing 2 other Looney Tunes projects, (Bye Bye Bunny: A Bugs Bunny Musical and Coyote Vs Acme) it’s just disheartening to see such an important, groundbreaking, and iconic creative art being treated this way. Imagine if Nickelodeon did that with SpongeBob? People would have a FIT!

If you follow me on Instagram or saw my healthily long list of favorite shorts on this platform you know I’ve been very vocal about the legacy of the Looney Tunes and been very pissed off at Zaslav’s disdain for anything animation but especially Looney Tunes. If The Day The Earth Blew Up fails in theaters, we may never get another Looney Tunes film or show by Warner Bros. I’m sure if it fails Looney Tunes will be sold off to a competitor because “it can’t make money”.

We already can’t find the majority of Looney Tunes shorts except on DVD and the legacy of such a iconic IP deserves to be accessible to everyone. Please take your kids. Take your families and friends, go alone if you have to on February 28th, and let’s see a movie wonderfully made by amazing animators and voice actors who have been lending their voices to Looney Tunes, some of them over 25+ years. Let’s give this movie its flowers and prove to Zaslav that the love for Looney Tunes is not dead.
